Religious education at St. Cecilia School begins as soon as a student enters our school. In every grade, we teach our children religious principles and those teachings deepen and evolve as the students mature. Whether it’s learning about prayer in kindergarten, preparing for the Sacraments, participating in our Service Club, or having a special classroom visit from our pastor, Fr. Jamie Weber, St. Cecilia incorporates religious teachings throughout its curriculum.
From kindergarten through eighth grade, students participate in daily religion class, which covers the teachings of the church as well as Christian behaviors and attitudes. Every morning begins with a prayer and daily Scripture reading. Children start learning The Lord’s Prayer in Kindergarten.
Preschoolers and Kindergartners attend select all-school Masses, while students in grades 1-8 attend weekly Mass. Students are given the opportunity to participate in school Masses to enrich their experience in the classroom.
Children attending St. Cecilia School and baptized in the Catholic Church have the opportunity to prepare for the Sacraments of Reconciliation and First Holy Communion in second grade, and Confirmation in seventh grade. Sacramental preparation takes place either during the students’ daily religion classes or during special sessions with our Pastor, Rev. Jamie Weber or our Director of Faith Formation, Cody Egner.
These sacraments nourish, strengthen, and express our faith. At St. Cecilia, we prepare children with teachings about the sacraments, as well as through emphasizing and practicing a Christian way of living and praying within our community. Active participation at Sunday Mass on a weekly basis is the most powerful and most significant means parents have for readying their child to receive these sacraments. That combined with classroom instruction prepares our students well for entering into a deeper relationship with God.
Receiving these sacraments are special milestones in the life of a Catholic child. At St. Cecilia we are pleased to be able to help our students discover the joy of living in communion with God and with others through the sacramental preparation process.
